It has been three years since I first met my girlfriend in the flesh, so to celebrate I painted her this picture. I’m not too good at paining something off the top of my head, but it was a fun challenge & although there are a few kinks here & there I would change if I did it again, I am generally happy with the result. I particularly like how the night sky turned out & feel the mix of tones blend together nicely. Doing this piece has put me back into the mood for drawing, so perhaps I will have more work to share with you soon!

Due to a few weeks poor health my origami output has fallen behind a little. A month & a half or so to be precise. While it’s always a shame to see the dates so far behind, I have to say it has ben brilliant fun to fold my way through a weeks worth of models each day. I always have an immense satisfaction when my simple square of paper transforms into something new & when you are making five or six models, the small menagerie of creations really feels like you’ve accomplished something. Of course, the models don’t always work out, which can cause disappointment & frustration, but you win some & loose some & the successes certainly make up for a flop here & there Read more »
I’ve been recovering from a bit of a nasty accident for the past week & a bit so it means I haven’t been able to get much blogging done, missing out on last weeks Download Roundup. Thankfully I’m starting to get back to my usual self now so I thought I might as well try & get stuck in with the blogging again straight away with a bumper Download Roundup covering the last fortnight. It would be criminal to skip a week or so when so many great games have hit both platforms. We’ve had more Art Style, a blast from the past, paper bears, pocket-sized Pilotwings & a Sudoku game which is worth your money. Hopefully everyone will be able to find at least one game in this mix they’ll be interested in.

I recently decided to pick up Pac-Man Championship Edition on my iPod Touch, having heard good things about it. Apart from being the only game I’ve played on my iPod that has managed to get a joystick replacement control scheme that actually works & is comfortable, it is one of the few Pac-Man games which manages to take the brilliance of the original & put a fun twist which feels natural to play. There has only really been one other Pac-Man game in the last 10 years or so that managed to keep the feel & fun of the original, but offer something new & unique to the series at the same time & that is Pac-Man Vs. I originally wrote this article back in June 2008 & I believe the game still holds up as a very fun twist on the classic genre.

It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these! Firstly, as for the month or so I’ve missed out, you will be able to hear all my thoughts & opinions (as well as my co-host Daan’s) in the April & May editions of In The Fridge. Hopefully both of these episodes should be out soon, but are unfortunately being held up by technical difficulties in the editing process. As for this week, it’s been DSiWare all the way, with three games all offering something very different, from the simple, yet addictive, Advanced Circuits to the impressive 3D head tracking games Tales In A Box. Hello!
It’s been a while since I last blogged, which has mainly been due to a combination of illness, spending time with family & getting my ideas sorted & organised. Hopefully I will be back to my regular blogging soon as well as possibly putting up some older pieces of work from previous blogs I’ve contributed to.
Anyway, to the origami! I’ve got two months worth a models this time & have had the chance to fold some really interesting & unique models. The last few months have introduced me to some new bases to work with, such as the frog base, which have opened the way for a lot more complex models. While it’s great to have more models & ideas to work with, I’m finding some of my models getting a bit scrappy as the number of folds means a slight misalignment near the start can really throw the rest of the model off-balance. However, while they may not be as neat & shiny as I would like, they have a lot of heart & personality & that’s what counts for me.

This week was quite an interesting one for me with several games I’ve been looking forward to finally released. While most of these have lived up to my expectations (if not exceeding them), unfortunately one also fell flat on it’s face. The runaway winner this week though has to be Alphabounce, which has consumed hours & hours of my time since I’ve downloaded it. It has easily become the greatest Arkanoid game I’ve played & could possibly be a permanent fixture on my DSi. Read more »

This week has been a bit of quiet one for me (at least relative to my usual downloading habbits), with just two game on DSiWare getting my interest. The elephant in the room this week had to be Super Mario Kart, & while many people love the title, I never really managed to get into the SNES title, putting me off buying this one for now. I might end up downloading it one week in the future, but for now it just doesn’t capture my interest enough. Both of my downloads for this week are in the arcade challenge genre & I have had a lot of fun with both. I can see them staying on my DSi for quite a while to come! Read more »
Introduction
Lent. People normally see it as a time to try & go about without something for forty-something days, whether that be chocolate, fizzy drinks, texting or any habit really. However, I do have a slight problem with this. If I was to give something up to lent, it would have to be something that would be a beneficial experience for my life (I’m not doing it just to prove a point, I wan’t to get something meaningful out of it), & with the limited lifestyle I currently face due to my disability, giving something up seemed like it would only further push myself away from where I want to be. Therefore I thought I’d do something a little different. Rather than giving up a habit I would try & introduce an old habit back into my life, hopefully for the better. Read more »
Another moth has come to pass, wich means It’s time to catalogue another months worth of origami models. First of all, you will notice that more models have made the cut this month, despite throwing away several inflatable models which simply weren’t camera accessible (& rather rubbish) as well as some multiple day models. It’s nice to see my skill & confidence grow with each month. Perhaps we will pass the 15 model mark for April? Read more »
